Romantic fuchsia table for two

romantic fuchsia table setting

Hi,
For this May celebration I didn’t wanted to do barbecue. The weather wasn’t very stable, and we still didn’t have the grill. So instead of making something that will take all day I opted to do a simple romantic fuchsia table for tea time with our fuchsia plant as an inspiration.

KISS – keep it simple stupid

I am all for keeping it simple and reusing the things that you have at hand. But I have to admit – I was a bit bad. I bought a cake stand and two pink glass plates for this occasion. I plan on using them in future as well, so I thought it wasn’t that bad of an investment. However, for table centerpiece I decided to use our fuchsia. It is a potted plant that is the colour of the pink plates and now has an abundance of flowers. It made the floral centerpiece with cut flowers not needed, which is a plus – you have an exact color match centerpiece that doesn’t die out quickly and will happily bloom for some time after your event, and it has less of a carbon footprint. I plan to keep it over winter so next year it blooms again. The other thing I bought which is not eco friendly is the paper table cloth that comes in a roll. It has that nice orange and fuchsia pink flower pattern.

So let’s set our dessert/tea romantic fuchsia table. First I cut out the needed length of the paper table cloth. Ideally, I would use the white linen or cotton table cloth lined with fuchsia pink motives. But that’s a future project I intend to make. Then set two pink plates according to the seats. Above plates go dessert spoons,so that the spoon handle is turned in the direction of the hand you use it with (handle on the right). If I used a desert fork, it will be put above the plate(s) but with handle on the left.

In the back of the table I put my fuchsia plant. So it gives a little more colour to the table. I didn’t buy an extra pot for this occasion, it made no sense, I simply used its usual metal pot. If you choose the pot you like for your flower and that goes well with it, you really don’t need an extra container for special occasion(s). I also added the candle in the glass container that I bought to use on the balcony. Since entire balcony is in wood, I have to have a fire proof container for the candle. This is something we use in the evenings now, when we drink the tea on the balcony, and it’s dark.

Cake and drinks

Before serving the cake, I put the champagne flutes with berry soda and ice with raspberries to the right of the plate. in the corner of a square that would circumvent the plate. And last but not least thing on the table was our Rhubarb cake, that I put in the center of the table. That way it was easily reached by both of us.

Note on romantic fuchsia table setting

I put the so called centerpiece in the back of the table, and not in the center of the table because I don’t like to have it block my view of the other person and sometimes centerpieces are just being in the way. The cake was served on glass stand and it was actually in a way a part of the centerpiece itself. I think it’s better to have it displayed and easily reachable then to put it somewhere where it will be bothersome to reach it.

I hope you will consider using potted plants for your next table centerpiece. It can be as romantic as a vase of cut flowers. But this one you get to keep, and keep, and keep …
