Hi, this isn’t exactly a spring post. you can do this in any season as long as the weather is nice, but this weekend we are finally building our brick barbecue. Next weekend will be the its first run 🙂 Can’t wait!
What we are using old bricks that we have because we took down our two chimneys that were not used. And some pre-made mortar mixture in which you just add water. We decided to build the barbecue so we can change the height of fire to make it possible to cook with cauldron as well. (In this part of country (Croatia) we have some great recipes that we slowly cook over fire in a cauldron. It would be a pity not to be able to use the barbecue for that as well.)
Some tips and brick barbecue plans
Since I’m not going to give you tips for building it (you can find far better instructions elsewhere on web). I’m going to give you our plans for our barbecue, so if you like it you can build it yourself. There is just couple of things to keep in mind when building you own brick barbecue:
- If you’re building it yourself, not everything will be perfect
- If you’re re-using old bricks, they won’t be same size, therefore you will have to use more mortar for some then for the others
- There’s beauty in imperfection
Happy building! 🙂
