Hi all,
as an Xmas/Yule obsessed person, naturally I want to go all out for the holidays. But with my ADHD cleaning our home for holidays is not an easy task. That’s why I decided to make a checkbox list so I can track what has been done and what needs to be done. This I’ll do according to the room. BUT like all things I do, I probably won’t be able to do it in any particular order. I go nuts when I have to do things in particular order. However, task list is always good to have.
Room 1 – bathroom
Bathroom is an easy room to clean – all it takes is half an hour to scrub. We don’t have a large bathroom with a lot of things in it. Therefore this room is peace of cake. Besides it is on my weekly Housechores TODO list.
I usually clean bathroom on Sundays. So will stick to that day as well. Here is the checklist of bathroom chores:
- clean the toilet until squeaky clean
- vacuum the bathroom
- mop the floor
- clean cat’s litter box
- change the cat’s litter
- clean the shower
- scrub the sink until squeaky clean
- clean the mirror
- dust the shelves
- move the laundry baskets to their place
- take out of the bathroom all things that don’t belong there
- clean the window
- remove any trash
- fill in the liquid soap
- make sure there is enough toilet paper
Room 2 – Bedroom
In our case bedroom is also easy. We literally don’t have anything in it, except the bed, night lamp and one box. That one should be replaced with something better, like a bed sheet box. I plan on doing this this weekend. Here are the tasks:
- change the sheets
- lift the mattresses so they get some air
- vacuum the floor thoroughly discard all of the cat’s hair from the mat she sleeps on
- change the box to the more usable one
- add the bed sheets to the box in the bedroom
- fluff up the pillows
- clean the window
- remove any trash
Room 3 – work room or study
Ok, this is a problematic room for us. We have so many things in it. It’s chaotic. The closet with clothes is here, as well as the computer and the tables. And we even use it as a storage for some items. There’s even an extra seating sofa, that is just in the way. But still, even this room can be improved and cleaned.
- clean the window
- vacuum the room
- mop the floor
- put in the closet any clean laundry
- put dirty laundry to the bathroom laundry baskets
- throw away the trash and not needed stuff and papers
- sort out papers and arrange them
- vacuum the sofa
- arrange the extra tables in one corner
- throw the empty bottles
- dust the tables and any shelves
Room 4 – open space living room and kitchen
Again one of two problematic rooms in our flat. It is our entrance, our living room and our kitchen all in one. This makes it extra difficult to clean nad maintain. It is the place where we cook and bake, watch TV and play video games. The most problematic thing is that it is also an entryway. So all of the dirt comes right into our living room from the outside. Not an ideal setting but still. It can look decent. I will divide the list for this room in two lists. One is for living room area, the other for kitchen area.
Kitchen area list of tasks
Just like in all kitchens some tasks simply stay the same:
- wash the window
- sweep the floor
- wash the sink until squeaky clean
- put the dishes into dishwasher
- clean the dishwasher
- vacuum the floor
- clean counter tops & fronts
- mop the floor
- clean the fridge
- put the teppanyaki grill away
- clean the toaster
- clean the oven & the cooking plate
Living and entry area list of tasks
Since our living room is also our entry way. This list is a combo of both
- sweep the floor
- vacuum the floor & rugs
- arrange the shoes
- put the not seasonal things away
- dust
- wash the windows
- take out the trash
- remove the things from the room that should not be there
- water the plants and wipe the dust from them if there is any
- vacuum the sofa
- wash the blankets
- clean the cat’s things
- play with the cat
- clean cat hair from everywhere
Room 5 – the balcony
Just because it is outside that does not meet it should not look nice for the holidays. You don’t have to go mental with the decorations. Just making it look clean and tidy will do quite enough. So let’s start:
- sweep the balcony if not wet
- remove any dead plants
- if you have any evergreens move them to the view if they are not there
- remove any trash or leaves that may be there
- put away the unused pots
- cover the sensitive plants if you already have not done that
This covers all of my rooms. I know my rooms are not arranged in the same way as yours, but you can tweak a list here and there to adjust it to your room. These are just to give you an idea of what you can do to have a clean home for the holidays. Of course after the cleanup comes the decoration part. This I may do in another post. Till then, let’s clean!
As a little gift, here is the checkbox list that is clickable in Word format. You can edit it to fit your needs. If you need to add more simply copy paste the checkbox into the new line and add the text.
