Hi,
since we’re enjoying the last days of summer I decided to celebrate the late summer with iced afternoon tea. It follow the classical English afternoon tea with the exception of serving iced tea. This iced tea I made by brewing white tea and infusing it with peaches. As a centerpiece we used again a potted plant – the beautiful yellow rudbeckia. Here is the menu for our little iced afternoon tea.
Iced Afternoon Tea Menu
- Egg sandwiches
- Scones with home made peachjam
- Upside down peach cake
- Iced tea with peach
To be honest, I’m not a fan of the peach ice tea that you buy in store. It has an unpleasant taste. So I was very afraid I won’t like the home version either, but, it changed my mind. I like this homemade version very much. If you think you will have a lot of peach hair in your tea, use nectarines instead of classical peaches to infuse the tea.
Decorations
The decorations are kept to the minimum, and I don’t own a classical tea set myself. I used my everyday tea/coffee cups. This also made the entire affair look a bit more modern. I used what I had for my tea time, and it looked nice and tasted great. I actually used my wooden cutting boards to serve the sandwiches and scones. Only cake had the special cake stand that I bought this spring and keep on using it in absolutely every possible occasion. If you have a cake stand, use it. Don’t keep it in a cupboard for safe keeping. If you don’t have a cake stand, serve the cake on wooden cutting board or a big plate. Don’t buy it if you won’t use it. Nor feel compelled to buy it because someone else has it. Use what you have. And your tea can still look quite elegant.
