Picea Glauca in holiday clothes

Hi! Being a freak for all things festive I also like to add some holiday mode in the garden. And what better thing than the decorated tree 🙂 .
I really really love the pines and conifers, so I decided to add a mini conifer to my garden. Picea Glauca ‘Conica’ is perfect. It’s small, extremly slow growing and has a fabulous shape.

To prepare it for the holidays and to make sure it’s roots are safe when the weather becomes extra cold, I put it’s container on bricks and then wrapped it in cloth so it is insulated. And then I simply decorated it with some styrofoam snowflakes and a red ribbon.

When decorating it, you need to take care not to use heavy ornaments. The ornaments need to be lightweight and resistant to atmospherilia. The branches of picea are tightly packed and there is not much space for ornaments to hang, so the ornamets will actually sit on the branches. The branches are small and cannot stand a lot of wieght so straw or styrofoam ornaments are the ones to use. Plastic ornamets can also be ok, but make sure they are not heavy. The ribbon is also not tightly squeezing the tree. It’s only wrapped around the tree, not attached to the tree at any point. The ribbon I used is wired in the sides so it can be modeled and will hold its shape. This way I don’t have to attach it at any point. The friction between ribbon and pines needles is enough to keep it in place.

And that’s it! My little tree is decorated 🙂 and adds a nice holiday feeling to the garden. I just wish my garden is better looking, but it will look much much better next year. For the end, here’s a bit of info about picea glauca.
